Check out this page for a fascinating take on the old adage that given an infinite number of monkeys typing away on typewriters for an infinite number of years, one will eventually end up producing the complete works of Shakespeare.
The Yankees lose! The Yankees lose!
No, this is nowhere near the satisfaction that would have been, had the Red Sox crushed the Yankees in the ALCS. However, it's still pretty satisfying. And although they prevented the Cubs from getting to their first World Series since 1945, the Marlins are actually quite a fun team to watch.
Now, could we PLEASE have a Cubs-Red Sox series next year?

I love my iPod!
After some deliberation, I ended up buying the older model. As much as I appreciate the sheer physical beauty of the new model, I prefer having controls with solid tactile feedback. Also, the battery life on this model is superior by about two hours.
The case in the picture above is the iSkin, in a vibrant blue color they call Electra. It does a good job of protecting the iPod from scratches, and it also glows in the dark. Its two minuses are the exposed screen, which I covered with a trimmed PDA screen protector (the screen dimensions are 2 1/4" x 1 5/8"), and the silicone's affinity for dust, which to me is only a small bother.
Now that I've nearly filled its 20GB capacity, I can listen to anything from Mahler symphonies to Brahms' choral music to Die Fledermaus to Diana Krall to Dixie Chicks to U2 to sappy Asian pop to even a Harry Potter book -- anytime, anywhere, and all with just a few swirls of my thumb. This is just too cool for words.
And in a few years, when the 100GB iPod becomes available, I'll be able to carry my entire CD collection in the palm of my hand.
I can't wait.
First, the Cubs lose three in a row to lose their series to the Fish. Next, the Red Sox lose game 7 because Grady Little is apparently the only human being on the face of this planet who can't see that Pedro has nothing left. And now, I flip on game 5 of the World Series, and I see Yanni performing the national anthem. Fish, Pinstripes, and Yanni -- it's not quite the seventh circle of hell, but we do appear to be heading in that general direction. Argh!

LOTR Trilogy Tuesday. Oh yeah.
I'm so working hard to become a frozen orange....
Only the Japanese could make something this bizarre appear really cute and innocuous.
